Graphic Design StudioBenjamin Gillham, MFA

Ben Gillham is Professor of Graphic Design, and a graduate of Michigan State University’s Master of Fine Arts program in Graphic Design. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Art from Albion College.

Most recently, he designed the Addy® Award winning logo identity system for Northwest Florida State College, and the college’s new official seal used on diplomas and other official documents. He has art directed and designed the last five yearly issues of Blackwater Review, the College’s magazine showcasing student literature and art. He has also worked with Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurburt Field to design innovative training materials for flight safety, for which he was given AFSOC’s Commando Safety Award for Outstanding Achievement in Safety.

Ben started his teaching career at Michigan State University in the spring semester of 1994 as a graduate teaching assistant. There he was responsible for teaching Color and Design, and traditional darkroom photography courses. Upon graduation, he accepted a position at the University of Tennessee at Martin. At UTM he was responsible for developing the Graphic Design major within the Fine and Performing Arts division. In two years the program grew strongly and doubled the number of majors in the overall Visual Art program.

He came to Northwest Florida State College (then Okaloosa-Walton Community College) in the fall semester of 1998. Since then he has developed and taught more than twenty different courses, covering a wide range of subject areas including: traditional darkroom and digital photography, print-based graphic design, web authoring, interactive media, and digital video. He was responsible for the development of the Digital Media/Multimedia Technology degree program, and has recently restructured and updated it along with the Graphic Design Technology degree to best position the program for future growth and to ensure a quality experience for our students. Feel free to contact him at any time with any questions you may have about our programs, including how you can hire one of our excellent students to work on any Graphic Design or Digital Media products you may need.
