You may
access information about my educational, theatrical, and visual
arts background as well as my
portfolio from this website.
My
bio lists most, but not
all, of my work in theatre and the visual arts over a 25 year
career at Okaloosa-Walton College including the southeast,
northeast, Caribbean, and South America.
The variety of
subject matter in my art reflects my eclectic life experiences
and interests. Generally, the courses I teach are Drawing, Oil
Painting, Two Dimensional Design, Acting, Portfolio Development,
Creative Dramatics and the Humanities.
Personal Information:
William
Esher and Lois Veronica Snyder named me Jerrilyn Joy. I am the
twelfth of thirteen children (11 girls and 2 boys). Yes, all
were from the same mother and father. No, we were not Catholic.
My
sisters and I were given nicknames by our two brothers (the
oldest of the siblings). My nickname is Jb, endearingly. (don’t
ask)
“Chicagoland” was our family’s home until we moved to Miami,
Florida.
It was
wonderful to grow up in a “dorm” with all my sisters and in a
very traditional family setting. Little did I know that the age
spans and exponential growth of my family (numerous nephews and
nieces) would prove to be a perfect spawning ground for my
future as an educator. Teaching seems to be something I was
repeatedly drawn to quite naturally early on. Positive family
support, and wonderful mentors in public schools and college
contributed greatly, of course.
I
couldn’t decide which of the arts in which to concentrate so I
decided to do as many of them as I could fit in to my schedule.
